A software team seen from behind working at their monitors

A contractor who owns the tools and the scaffolding can fix a problem on site the same day. A contractor who hires them in has to wait for someone else. Software works in much the same way: a team that maintains its own foundation can support, secure and extend every system built on it directly, without depending on a third party.

In short, we built our own framework in 2015 and our own platform in 2021 because owning the foundation lets us look after our clients' systems directly and extend them as their businesses grow, without starting again. This is the story of how ASAS became NagaCloud, and what it means for the businesses we work with.

Why Build Our Own Platform?

We built our own platform so that every system we deliver runs on a foundation our team understands completely and maintains itself. It lets us support, secure and extend a client's website, online store or business system directly, and add new capabilities over the years without starting again or depending on a third party.

Key Points

  • In 2015 we built ASAS, our own PHP framework, and every system we have built since runs on it.
  • NagaCloud began in 2021 with domains, DNS and hosting in one place, and NagaCloud® was registered as a trade mark the same year.
  • In 2022 NagaCloud Sites went live with its first client sites.
  • NagaCloud now runs on more than 30 microservices and 164 business modules, and it is built to work on any cloud.
  • Owning the foundation means one provider for the whole stack, and room to grow on the same platform.

The Early Years: A New Foundation for Every Project

In our first five years, we delivered websites, web applications and mobile apps for clients ranging from professional firms to national brands. As the number of systems we looked after grew, so did our commitment to the clients behind them.

We wanted every client to receive the same quality of support years after launch. The simplest way to achieve that was for every system to share one foundation that our team understood completely and maintained itself.

2015: ASAS, Our Own Framework

In 2015 we built ASAS, our own PHP framework, and every system we have built since runs on it. A shared foundation brought three practical benefits:

  • Consistency. Every project follows the same structure, so any developer in our team can pick up any client's system and understand it quickly.
  • Security in one place. A fix made to the foundation can be applied to every system built on it.
  • Faster delivery. Common needs such as user accounts, content management and reporting are built once and refined over many projects.

It also changed how we think about our work. A framework is never finished, so every project became a chance to make the foundation stronger for the next client.

2021: NagaCloud Begins

By 2021, the next step was clear. Our clients needed more than a website: domains, DNS, hosting, email, online payments and business systems, all working together. We began NagaCloud that year, starting with domains, DNS and hosting in one place, and registered NagaCloud® as a trade mark.

In the same year we built ASAS.js and ASAS CSS, our own frontend framework and components, so the screens our clients and their customers use run on a foundation we maintain as well. From the database to the button on the screen, the whole stack became ours to support.

2022: The First Client Sites on NagaCloud

In 2022 NagaCloud Sites, the service that runs many client websites on one platform, went live with its first client sites. In the same year we were appointed as a MYNIC accredited registrar, so the domains behind those sites could be looked after directly as well.

Running many sites on one platform meant that an improvement built for one client, such as a new payment gateway or a better product page, could be offered to every other client without building it again.

NagaCloud Today

NagaCloud has since grown into the platform behind the websites, online stores and business systems we build. It runs on more than 30 microservices and 164 business modules, and it is built to work on any cloud: we work with Huawei Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, and none of them is a dependency. In 2026 we released NagaCloud AI, an assistant inside the console, as a private preview, and the NagaCloud API to selected clients.

What It Means for Our Clients

  • One provider for the whole stack. The domain, the hosting, the website and the business system are looked after by the team that built them.
  • Room to grow. A business can start with a website and add an online store, a client portal or a business system later, on the same platform.
  • Improvements over time. Updates to the platform reach every client system built on it.

How We Build at Valse

Every project at Valse starts with the business, following our RIDE framework: Review, Identify, Digitalise and Elevate. We then build on NagaCloud, so each system shares the same foundation, the same security practice and the same support. You can read more on our digital platform development page.
